Heralding in Hanukkah Together at Temple

Hanukkah is a time for light, laughter, and community, and we’re inviting everyone to come get in the Hanukkah spirit with us this weekend for two special events to get you in the holiday spirit before we light the first candle on December 25^th (details below).  I think this year it is even more important to be able to mark this holiday as a community.  It is one that commemorates our victory over forces that sought to suppress Jewish practice and identity, and all the more so, we celebrate despite forces in the world that seek to create fear within the Jewish community.  This is a holiday of resilience and hope.  We pray for peace, for safety for all in and near Israel, and just as the Maccabees fought against overwhelming odds, we too can find the strength to spread light and strength, to build community with faith and compassion.  Since it might take a little extra to get in the spirit, we are starting early here at Temple: 

Saturday, December 14^th join us for Torah study (multi-access, 9:15 a.m.), a joyful Shabbat service (10:30 a.m.), Hanukkah themed Kiddush lunch (following services), and/or our festive and illuminating learning at the Hanukkah Shabbaton (1:00 p.m.)

Sunday, December 15^th is our annual Hanukkah Happening!  Whether you have kids in Religious School or not— all are invited to join as we come together to share food, fun, and festive activities to prepare for the holiday – from our notorious pedal-powered menorah and its newer, more accessible, hand-crank menorah cousin to tests of your wit and luck there is something for all ages and abilities.  We will begin at 11:00 a.m. with presentations by the students, transition to pasta lunch with latkes and sufganiyot (jelly filled donuts) prepared by our Religious School committee and festive activities.  Lunch is $6 per adult, $4 per child, and free for kids 3 and under, RSVP here by tonight.
