Celebrating the Unsung Heroines of Chanukkah

When you picture Chanukkah, your mind probably jumps to the warm glow of menorahs, the joy of spinning dreidels, and the deliciousness of latkes and sufganiyot, jelly donuts. But beyond these beloved traditions lies a story filled with courage and resilience—one that shines a light on the remarkable women of Chanukkah.

While the Maccabees are often hailed as the main heroes of the Chanukkah saga, it’s time we lift up the stories of amazing figures like Judith and Hannah. Judith showcased true bravery as she took bold action to save her people from a tyrannical general. Meanwhile, Hannah stood as a fierce advocate for Jewish values, offering us a profound example of spiritual strength. These women remind us that sometimes the greatest courage manifests in ways we least expect.
