Rabbi’s Message – January 16, 2025
As we prepare for this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, we are looking forward to continuing our longstanding tradition of the pulpit exchange with Omega Baptist Church. This meaningful collaboration began in 1994, the year Temple Israel moved into its current building, as a gathering between the young adults of both congregations. Over the past three decades, it has grown into a yearly program and partnership that celebrates fellowship, prayer, and a shared commitment to justice and hope.
Our history together runs deep. Before moving to our current home on Riverside Drive, Temple Israel was housed in the very building where Omega Baptist Church now resides. This shared space is a symbol of the enduring connections between our communities. It reminds us that, while we come from different faith traditions,our mutual dedication to the welfare of the Dayton community unites us in purpose and action.
Messages of hope, unity, and peace resonate deeply during this weekend, reminding us that the work of justice is ongoing and that we are strongest when we walk this path together.
We encourage everyone to join us for both services—to pray, sing, and learn together as one community. Let us celebrate this enduring partnership and reaffirm our shared commitment to a brighter future.
This year’s pulpit exchange will feature two meaningful opportunities to come together:
Sunday, January 19, at 11:00 AM: Temple Israel will join Omega Baptist Church at 1821 Emerson Avenue for their Sunday worship service. I will have the privilege of delivering the sermon.
Friday, January 17, at 6:30 PM: Temple Israel will host Omega Baptist Church for a Shabbat service and celebratory oneg. Pastor Joshua Ward will deliver the sermon.
