Temple Members Make Our Community Better
Temple members volunteer for many organizations and causes in the community, both individually and through Temple. Here are the current projects our Social Action committee coordinates. If you're interested, there are always opportunities to get involved.
Clothes that Work provides interview appropriate clothing and personalized, confidence building image services for clients. Temple members bring professional clothing to Temple from where Clothes that Work staff or our members can deliver it to Clothes that Work's location.
Bring in your gently used shoes and place them into the ShoeBox Recycling boxes located in Temple's lobby. The shoes collected will be distributed for resale and reuse in areas of need around the globe, including Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guatemala, Chile, Kenya, India, Bolivia and Haiti. Temple receives a monthly check based on the weight of the boxes that we donate. Note: Every style and type is eagerly accepted except for ski boots, heavy winter boots, roller skates/blades, ice skates and shoes in need of repair.
Helping to break the cycle of poverty, homelessness and crisis among teenagers, Daybreak provides shelter, food, life skills and counseling to runaway and homeless teens in Dayton. Children in Temple's religious school help prepare lunches for Daybreak.
Everyone is welcome as a guest at the House of Bread. Everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and no one is turned away. Temple members help prepare and meals at the House of Bread and also pick up and deliver donated food.
Assisting the homeless and impoverished and helping men, women and families build a foundation for a secure future, St. Vincent de Paul provides meals, shelter and case management services. Once or twice a month, Temple members help serve meals to St. Vincent de Paul clients. Contact Temple for a schedule.
